Betty Naomi Goldstein was born in Peoria, Illinois, on February 4, 1921, one year after women won the right to vote. The daughter of a Russian Jewish immigrant jeweler and a former newspaperwoman, Harry and Miriam Horowitz Goldstein, Betty was taught by her parents to strive for excellence in all that she did. She grew up a very self-confident, bright young woman with dreams of going to college and having a family.
Under her maiden name, Betty Goldstein, she was a political activist and professional propagandist for the Communist left for a quarter of a century before the publication of "The Feminist Mystique" launched the modern women's movement.
At the time of publication The Feminist Mystique and its feminist ideas were condemned and feared more than Russians.
Is this a cocktail or what?:-)))
